Guiyang Hydraulic Valves: Application of Mud Valves in Waterworks

2022-10-11

Mud valve is an angle-type shut-off valve with hydraulic or pneumatic power for its actuator. It is commonly installed in rows on the outer bottom wall of sedimentation tanks to discharge sediment, sand and dirt accumulated at the tank bottom. Featuring reliable sealing and long service life, the valve adopts rubber sealing pairs with zero leakage. Remote control can be realized via an electric 4/2-way solenoid directional valve, ensuring easy and reliable operation. This product is applied to various tanks of water supply companies and other enterprises, mounted outside tanks to drain sediment inside.

Product Features of Mud Valves

The key feature of pneumatic mud valves is the adoption of a double-chamber diaphragm actuator instead of a piston structure, delivering zero wear during movement and long service life. It is mounted on the outer bottom wall of various sedimentation tanks to drain sand, sediment and contaminants from the tank bottom.

  1. The mud valve uses a double-chamber diaphragm drive mechanism instead of piston-type valves. There is no moving wear; no water leakage caused by impurities. It is insensitive to sediment accumulation, requires no lubrication and generates no mechanical abrasion.
  2. Pneumatic mud valves offer excellent sealing performance. The rubber-lined valve plate and beveled seat opening prevent sediment and impurities from depositing easily.
  3. Low driving medium pressure. No extra booster pump or air compressor is required. Centralized control can be realized via manual directional valves or 4-way solenoid directional valves for convenient operation.
  4. Robust construction with long service life.

Commissioning Steps for Mud Valves

  1. Verify that the installation of control pipes for the pneumatic mud valve complies with the manual.
  2. Check whether the technical parameters of the solenoid valve meet requirements. Energize to open, de-energize to close.
  3. Check that all bolts, pipes and fittings are fastened securely and reliably.
  4. Feed medium into the control pipeline.
  5. Fill the main mud valve with water and maintain medium in the control pipeline. The main valve opens when the solenoid valve is energized and closes when de-energized.

Application of Mud Valves in Waterworks

Product Application

A mud valve consists of valve body, upper and lower diaphragm chambers, diaphragm and valve stem. The upper and lower diaphragm chambers use liquid or gas as power medium, while the diaphragm and valve stem act as the switch. The valve plate can be fully opened within 20 seconds. Remote on/off control can be achieved by manual directional valves or solenoid valves. The valve boasts tight sealing, reliable switching performance and convenient maintenance. Its service life can exceed 5 years with an 18-month warranty.

Applicable medium for mud valves: raw sewage, medium temperature generally below 50℃. It is used in water treatment plants to discharge sludge and wastewater from tanks. The mud valve adopts an angle-type structure, and its internal nylon-reinforced rubber diaphragm enables long-term operation.
